NUTRITION

The body needs a certain balance of nutrients and minerals in order to function effectively.

Taking into account your nutritional values and goals, we offer counseling on how to optimize your health through evaluating your diet and assessing for nutrient deficiencies.

Why is nutrition so important?

Nutrition plays a fundamental role in supporting growth, development, and maintenance of the body's tissues and organs and is an important factor in overall well-being, affecting physical, mental, and emotional health. Eating a balanced diet that meets the body's nutritional needs can help improve energy levels, mood, cognitive function, sleep quality, and overall quality of life.

What are symptoms of nutritional deficiencies?

Nutritional deficiencies can manifest in a wide range of symptoms, including:

  • Fatigue, weakness and reduced physical endurance

  • Poor growth and development

  • Skin, nail and hair changes- dry and scaly skin, brittle hair and nails

  • Cognitive and neurological symptoms- poor concentration, memory problems, mood changes and neuropathy

  • Eye and vision changes- dry eyes, night blindness and other vision changes

  • Muscle weakness, cramps and spasms

  • Immune system weakness

  • Dental and oral health problems

  • Gastrointestinal symptoms- diarrhea, constipation and poor digestion

How can you test your nutritional status?

In combination with a detailed history and physical exam, we offer at-home testing through Genova Diagnostics to identify nutritional and antioxidant deficiencies and inflammation, which may be contributing to persisting symptoms or chronic disease. By evaluating what may be out of balance, we are able to provide actionable counseling on how to optimize your nutrition and encourage foods that help prevent illness.
